I emailed jhonny-boy yesterday about his tour guide services.
I am just looking for a guide to show me a few places on my first evening in Rio, just to save me the time and hassle of trying to find everything by myself.
His reply: "My rate is gonna be U$35 per evening only....It`s important to say that I`m going to take you only in the safe places......"
I thought US$35 for a few hours of showing me around to be very reasonable (no "perks" expected at that price, of course...), plus I'd certainly be paying for drinks and dinner.
Now I'm wondering if he meant US$35 per hour (in which case...no deal!)

If they ask you 'is this your first time in Brazil' or 'how many times have you been in Brazil (or Rio)' and you say 'yes' expect to be quoted double or more then an acceptable rate!
First times always pay more!

A few weeks back, another Jhonny quoted me $100 dollars per hour; he's on www.Craigslist.com under Brazil (erotica). I said to myself: Forget that!
Another guide who is also at the same site quoted me an amazingly "low" rate of $6.00 per hour; his name is Marcelo in Brazil (Rio). I plan to hire him, but I also plan to give him more money than this plus expenses.
He's not an escort, so forget this component. I didn't get this information from him; I received it from a friend of mine who also might use his services and who has contacted Marcelo and has made some "candid" statements to him. I plan to use and seek him out from 09 November until the 15th, so guys, please! I am already on his calendar!
---------------- If your guide deems himself to be professional, ten to twelve dollars per hour has been the going rate. For two years I hired a great guide who spoke three or four languages and gave me some cogent history and other details which I sought. We had some great hours together on our little excursions. It's too bad that he is no longer doing this due to a very bad accident which he encountered almost two years ago to date. (His rate was what I quoted in lines one/two of the above.)
